MOUSE Squad enables students in Grades 4 - 12 to learn information technology (IT), problem solving, communication and leadership skills, while providing a service to their schools. It can be an out-of-school program or an in-school elective or summer session. The program includes an online curriculum and hands-on activities that correlate with 21st Century Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. A student-run help desk is set up to troubleshoot computers, printers and other equipment and where students can put into practice what they have learned. Special effort is made to recruit underserved and female students into the program. Many schools have computers in the classrooms, but not enough technicians to keep them running smoothly so that students and teachers can use them.
