MOUSE Unplugged @US First Robotics Competition
On March 7th MOUSE Squads from New York: Robert F Wagner Jr. Secondary School of Arts and Technology, Access High School, and MS 232 MOUSE Squads joined us at the US First Robotics Competition at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. This competition is hosted once a year over 3 days and is the regional competition where schools from the New York Tri-State area, and international team compete for a chance to go the national championship competition. The students tapped into their enthusiasm for robots and technology and use the opportunity to learn from other students with a similar interest in technology. The MOUSE Squads walked through the show floor interviewing attendee, competitors and a robot during the event.

The Blogger Activity helps our students become active and reflective participants in an event and learn from the participants. The process gives students an opportunity to discover a new passion, or research a path toward persuing an existing passion. Students are given a list of questions to choose from and are encouraged to make up their own.

Join MOUSE for March Unplugged Events!
This month MOUSE will be hosting 2 BRAND NEW Unplugged Events for Educators and Students. On March 19th we'll be hosting MOUSE Educator Unplugged: Exploring Media Literacy with LAMP, a professional development event exclusively for MOUSE Educators to join the dialogue on principles of multimedia literacy and take back great project ideas for students.
Then, on March 25, MOUSE will host Student Unplugged: Scratch Animation Workshop for MOUSE Squad Students where they'll be given an introduction to Scratch, a new free programming software developed by the MIT Media Lab that allows youth and adults to create original games and animations incorporating graphics, sound, and text.

MOUSE Educator Unplugged: Exploring Multimedia Literacy with LAMP
In this workshop, MOUSE Squad Coordinators will learn basic principles of media literacy, especially as they apply to understanding the elements of persuasion used in video ads or commercials. Participants will engage in activities focused on both creating video advertisements and unraveling the persuasive elements of commercials that have been produced. Workshop leaders will demonstrate how participants can use these same activities with their own students.
When: Thursday, March 19th, 4PM-6:30PM
Where: Macaulay Honors College @ CUNY
Who: Learning About Multimedia Project
About LAMP:
The LAMP (Learning About Multimedia Project) provides basic media literacy skills to the inter-related groups of youths, their parents and educators throughout New York City. Our free media literacy workshops and events demystify the constant flow of media these three groups encounter, bridge the gap between generations, and provide workforce development skills for future generations. The LAMP is a fully registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Student Unplugged: Scratch Animation Workshop
This workshop will offer an introduction to Scratch, a new free programming software developed by the MIT Media Lab that allows youth and adults to create original games and animations incorporating graphics, sound, and text. Our philosophy in the classroom is to encourage students to be creators, not just consumers of video games. This paradigm shift puts students in the drivers seat as they develop critical math, literacy, and technology skills in a very motivating arena. Presented by Emilie Reiser of Vision Education & Media.
When: Wednesday, March 25th, 4PM-6:30PM
Where:Lower East Side Preparatory High School @145 Stanton St
New York, NY 10002
Who: Vision Education & Media
About Vision Education:
